Community Banner Finished! [25 Oct 2006|02:12pm]

Hi, Moderator

Here's a sample of the finished art. Sorry about the long wait. This version is in PNG format. Your browser should be seeing true transparency around the image. If you're seeing some "grey" noise around the art, your browser is out of date and trying to see it as a GIF. Internet Explorer is notorious for screwing up graphics.

I'll make you several versions in JPG, PNG, and GIF formats and sizes.

I only made icons from the first half of the movie. I'll make more at some point, probably.

Howdy All.

My name is Major7 and I have been a fan of Shirley MacLaine since the 1980's, when I first began reading her books. Finding her books during that time in my life (mid 20's) was especially interesting and some of the philosophy I learned through them are still with me today.

It was only after reading about her trips all over the world that I began watching her movies. I do not know which movies I could say are my favorites as so many of them are so great. Steel Magnolias, Madame Sousatka, Postcards From the Edge, Terms of Endearment, The Turning Point, The Children's Hour, Two Mules for Sister Sara, are probably my favorite favorites, but the others are also great films, even Cannonball Run2.

I have had the chance to meet and greet Miss MacLaine on several occasions, and received a kiss from her when I presented her flowers a several years ago when she was performing in Dallas, Texas.

I love that she is working and has some new movies coming out soon.

Hi all, here's the requisite introduction:

I'm Libby, Australian, uni student. I can't remember the first Shirley movie I saw, but I do know The Apartment is my favourite film of hers. Fran Kubelik, I love you ("I absolutely adore you...")

Ummmm what else. Gotta back Cal up with These Old Broads, it's so bad, yet so very very good ("Boyyyy craaaazyyyy!"). The only reason I saw Bewitched last year was to see her and Michael Caine. I was really disappointed with how little Shirley got to do, though. Hell, they should have just refilmed it, called it Shirley Maclaine Plays Endora and had her and Michael bicker for two hours. How coolness.

BUT whaaaaaaat a life, whaaat a life, whadda fabulous life! YEAAAHHH [09 Apr 2006|02:09pm]
Hello All,
I just thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm Cal and I'm 15. I've been a fan of Shirley's since I was about 8 or 9. The first Shirley movie I saw was Guarding Tess and I loved it. And then a short while later I saw Steel Magnolias and naturally I wanted to BE Ousier Boudreaux and for weeks I went around saying "I don't see plays, becaaause I can nap at home for free! And I don't see movies 'cause they're TRASH, and they got nothin' but naked people in 'em! And I don't read books, 'cause if they're any good, they're gonna make 'em into a miniseries!!!"

And then over the years I saw more and more of her. And my adoration of her grew gradually it wasn't really all at once. After seeing her in Sweet Charity, The Turning Point, and I was even able to recognize the very young version of herself in The Trouble With Harry.  And I also remember seeing her when I was about 10 on The Rosie O'Donnell Show promoting the oh so trash-tastic and totally fabulous These Old Broads. Try and tell me you didn't love that despite the horrid script (especially the "What a Life" number)!

I have yet to read any of her books. I have a list of bios and autobios to read and I think My Lucky Stars is two away.

Anyway looking forward to discussing Shirley with you all!

Have any of you written her? I wrote her last fall and got back a lovely autographed 8x10 glossy. She signed it

"Thank You Cal!

Love and Light

Shirley Maclaine"

If anyone would like the address I believe I still have it.

Hooray! [09 Apr 2006|02:02pm]

[ mood | excited ]

Welcome, everybody! I'm so glad you guys have joined! I'm Jessica, the mod. I've been a Shirley fan since I was about eight, so... around 11 years now. I don't know why it took me so long to start this community, but I'm definitely glad to see there are some other fans out there.

My first Shirley movie was Steel Magnolias. Then it sort of branched out into everything else-- Sweet Charity, Some Came Running, The Apartment, Terms of Endearment... The list goes on and on.

What are some of your favorite movies?
Anybody read any of her books? If so, what did you think?
(Can you tell I'm trying to get some discussion going?)

Anyway, again- welcome!
And thanks to joanie_dearest5 for making us a new header and a new icon!

Anyway, I made a couple things for you-a header and an icon, if you want them (I have a lot of time on my hands LOL) ;)
