BUT whaaaaaaat a life, whaaat a life, whadda fabulous life! YEAAAHHH

Hello All,
I just thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm Cal and I'm 15. I've been a fan of Shirley's since I was about 8 or 9. The first Shirley movie I saw was Guarding Tess and I loved it. And then a short while later I saw Steel Magnolias and naturally I wanted to BE Ousier Boudreaux and for weeks I went around saying "I don't see plays, becaaause I can nap at home for free! And I don't see movies 'cause they're TRASH, and they got nothin' but naked people in 'em! And I don't read books, 'cause if they're any good, they're gonna make 'em into a miniseries!!!"

And then over the years I saw more and more of her. And my adoration of her grew gradually it wasn't really all at once. After seeing her in Sweet Charity, The Turning Point, and I was even able to recognize the very young version of herself in The Trouble With Harry.  And I also remember seeing her when I was about 10 on The Rosie O'Donnell Show promoting the oh so trash-tastic and totally fabulous These Old Broads. Try and tell me you didn't love that despite the horrid script (especially the "What a Life" number)!

I have yet to read any of her books. I have a list of bios and autobios to read and I think My Lucky Stars is two away.

Anyway looking forward to discussing Shirley with you all!

Have any of you written her? I wrote her last fall and got back a lovely autographed 8x10 glossy. She signed it

"Thank You Cal!

Love and Light

Shirley Maclaine"

If anyone would like the address I believe I still have it.

Hahahah! I LOVED These Old Broads! There's no denying it. What was that one lyric? "I- I like the way that they dance, I'm boy crazy; And I- I like the cut of their pants, I'm boy crazy..." (Might be totally off-- I haven't seen it in a long time!)

I wrote to her around '96 or '97 and got a lovely photo back. Then in 2000 she actually took the time to e-mail me (because someone I knew had gotten in contact with her) and sent me another autographed photo. Just goes to show what a sweet lady she is!

I'm so glad you joined, dearie!
LOL yes "I don't care the age of 'em 18 to 87. If I could have a stage of 'em that's MY heaven! I-I don't care what the world thinks! I'm boyyy crazy!"

WOW! That's awesome she wrote you an e-mail!!! How exciting! She really does seem incredibly sweet and always SO genuine!

Thank you! :)
"Get off your asses for these old broads!"

Love it ;)
LOL yes!!!

Debbie: *sobs* It's just like in a Barrrrbara Stannnwyck moviiie
wait a sec. I saw These Old Broads and don't remember the barbara stanwyck line....u must tell me. I love barbara! tell me tell me tell me! lol
HAHA well it's towards the end. And they've all driven off the set in a rage. And then the next thing you see they're all at a hospital and they're informed that Beryl Mason (Elizabeth Taylor) has died. And Wesley (Shirley's son in the film) said that just before she died Beryl raised herself up on one arm and said "You tell those divas, The show must go on!!!" And then Piper (debbie) starts sobbing and she cries "WAAAAAAA It's JUST like a Barbara Stanwyck moooooviiiie!!! *sobs some more*"
ok, thanks. Now I remember that part...hahaha, you're my hero, dahling

haha not a problem :)

Hi All!

I'm so glad to find this forum, because I love her so extremely much!!! I also tried to write her a letter, but it failed :( I sent it to the same address what you (Jungle red) wrote, but I got back the letter. Are you sure that the address is still ok?
